PAIA & access

Access-to-information route for Digital Verum

Purpose

The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA) gives effect to the constitutional right of access to information. For a private body, a requester must identify the right they seek to exercise or protect and explain why the requested record is required for that purpose.

Body and contact route

Requests concerning records held by Digital Verum should be addressed to the Information Officer / Head of Digital Verum, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, at hello@digitalverum.com. Use the subject line "PAIA access request" so it can be routed correctly.

How to make a request

  1. Use the prescribed Form 2: Request for Access to Record.
  2. Describe the record clearly enough for it to be identified.
  3. Explain the right to be exercised or protected and why the record is required.
  4. Provide proof of identity and authority where you act for another person.
  5. State your preferred form of access and relevant contact details.

Current forms, guidance and the PAIA guide are available from the Information Regulator's official PAIA page.

Records that may be held

Depending on the nature and maturity of the business relationship, records may include governance and company records; financial and tax records; personnel and contractor records; client, supplier and proposal records; agreements; intellectual-property and marketing records; website and technology records; policies; and personal-information processing records.

Decision, fees and grounds for refusal

Digital Verum will consider a valid request within the period prescribed by PAIA. Access may be subject to the prescribed request or access fees. A request may be refused where PAIA requires or permits refusal, including to protect privacy, confidential commercial information, safety, privileged material or other legally protected interests. Reasons will be provided where required.

Complaints

If a request is refused or is not answered within the statutory period, the requester may use the applicable complaint route with South Africa's Information Regulator. The Regulator publishes current procedures and complaint forms on its official complaints page.

Availability of a formal manual

A formal PAIA manual containing any additional registered-entity and Information Officer particulars may be requested through the contact route above. This web page is an accessible summary of the request process and does not replace a prescribed form or a manual required by law.
